TIPS FOR LETTER WRITING & COMPOSITION

Letter to the Editor:

Beginning:
“Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to share my concern about irresponsibility of people in keeping the surroundings clean and tidy.”
                                                                         Or
“Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the readers/ the concerned authorities about……………….”

As I am responsible citizen, I would like to bring to your notice ……….

Closing:
I hope/expect the concerned authorities will take immediate steps to eradicate this problem with roots.

 Formal letter:
 To unknown person -Dear Sir, / Dear Madam: Yours faithfully (Yours truly/ yours sincerely)
Teacher/Principal – Respected Sir: Yours obediently 
Business letter: Dear Sirs,
Informal letter:
Parents and relatives - Dear mom, dad etc. – Yours lovingly/ yours affectionately, (Your loving son/ your affectionate daughter)
Friend – Dear Rakesh (name) – Yours lovingly/your loving friend

Yours faithfully, (correct)
Your’s faithfully (wrong)
Yours Faithfully (wrong)

Introductory lines for informal letter:

Beginning:
I hope this letter find you in the best of your spirits.
I hope you’re in pink of our health.
I am delighted to know that ……
I am so please to hear about…..
I am very much excited to share some of my experiences or views about……
It was with real sorrow that I heard this morning of your great loss.
Thank you very much for your most kind and sympathetic letter.

Closing:

For formal letter:  (complaint, application, business etc.)

Composition (essay, story, description, speech, debate and article):
Need to use Rich vocabulary, phrasal verbs, idioms and proverbs wherever context /situation demands.
Instructions:
Ø  Attractive (Eye catching) Caption ( Title)
Ø  Impressive Introduction (Phrases, Quotations, Rhetoric lines etc.)
Ø  Contextual Conclusion (with your own views and opinions etc.)
Ø  Write in clear paragraphs
Ø  Handwriting should legible and write somewhat big letters (size)
